his is my second time here and it’s still as good as I remembered. Staff are fun and loud and friendly! Food is exceptional. Fried Green Tomatoes are everything! I had the poboys (1/2 shrimp 1/2 catfish) super yummy. I’ll prob make this a regular stop every time I’m in Denver!
I want to give 5 stars because I really want to like this place though every time I go I'm a bit disappointed by the food. It's good, it just doesn't have that wow factor for me. I've only been for breakfast though and their lunch/dinner menu looks good. Their big selection of coffee, juices, and cocktails always hit the spot.
Really loved the food and outdoor seating until last time we went they said no dogs allowed, even outside, as it was per the city health code. Such a shame!
Sassafras is cute and eclectic inside and out. We were given an estimated 1 hour wait for a table for Sunday brunch, our wait was much quicker at around 35 minutes. There was a long wait for drinks and for food after placing our orders but it was worth the wait. The menu is creative and varied, prices are reasonable, and the food was delicious. Our brunch entrees included fried chicken pimento cheese Benedict, breakfast Mac and cheese, a vegetarian Benedict, and a Cajun shrimp breakfast dish all of which was well presented and delicious.
Delicious food, can’t wait to go back and try everything else! Dined in for brunch (glad we arrived early), had chic pimento biscuit, bison hash, banana bread mm mm hmm yummy. Incl tax & tip about $40pp with Mimosa. Many in/outdoor seating choices in a beautiful house. Highly recommend
his is a generous 4. I was happy with the food overall, the staff was great, and granted it was a Thursday morning. Their Milk and Honey martini was nothing special, and the maple latte i remember liking so much was just so-so.
We had the biscuits and gravy, which is generally hard to get right. I'd think that a Southern restaurant would have a more flavorful gravy selection. It was just okay.
The shrimp and grits were really great! Had a wonderful kick. The fried pickles we had were definitely the best thing we ate there. Beignets we're delicious.
I recommend this place, even if it's just for the ambience.
One of my favorite places to eat .. biscuits and jam were superb addition to my lovely salad.
My neighbor told me about Sassafras American Eatery, only six blocks away.
I was very favorably impressed. I had the bacon egg and cheese slider. The service was top notch and food quality was excellent, much better than average for the neighborhood. It's the sort of place where you want to bring family and friends.
Bison Hash with Chicken Fried Eggs were amazing! Mimosas could use work. Great atmosphere though.
he appetizer were delightful. However, the main courses were much to be desired. They were over salted, and the portions (at least the bison mash) were smaller than hoped. Too, the waitress took our entire order about 10 minutes after we sat down, but didn't get our drinks and appetizer for another 45 minutes, and our main courses took an additional 20 minutes. The waitress apologized that they were getting busy, but the apology definitely lacked a sense of hospitality and didn't seem genuine.
If we go again, I would be on a weekend day morning, not a weekend again.
