You can pretty much order anything on the menu and know that it will be great. The Boudin Burger is ridiculously good!

Fantastic find.food and homemade desserts are fabulous.service is awesome.pot pies are to die for.try anything cant go wrong.key lime pie best ever.

Grandma's pot pie may have to take a back seat, these pies are so delicious. We tried the fried okra as an appetizer, excellent! And you must save room for dessert. We each got a different one and shared, the turtle pie was my favorite.

Spectacular food and service, totally worth the wait!!!

I heard about this place from a friend; it's a popular "Hole in the Wall" sorta place, and doesn't take reservations, so we were warned that the wait would be about an hour to be seated, but that they would take my phone number and text me when the table was ready. So, we just sat in my car listening to music and chatting, since I didn't want to lose my parking spot, and it was raining lightly but steadily, non-stop.

After only about 45 minutes, I got the text that our table was ready and as soon as we reached the hostess inside, they had our waitress take us to our table. Our table was in the back of the place, which has its seating area set up pretty much like a very long rectangle, so I noticed that even though they had roughly 20-24 tables, every single seat was filled except for the table we were brought to. That usually says quite a bit about the quality and timeliness of both the waiting staff and the busboys..

We got our drinks very quickly after we ordered them, and decided to have the Cajun Crawfish Queso appetizer, which comes with fried pork skins, and I would get the Seafood Pot Pie, which comes with a salad (I chose the Blue Cheese Dressing, since they don't offer Italian or Caesar, my usual go-tos), while my daughter got a bowl of the Seafood Lafourche Bisque.

The salad came first, so we shared it while waiting for the appetizer. It surprised my daughter that she actually liked the blue cheese. The appetizer came just as we finished up the salad, and was a very large portion for only two people, It's probably better to share it among three or four people, as the queso, though absolutely delicious, is also quite filling. We still managed to make our way through about two-thirds to three-quarters of it before our entrées arrived. Then we thoroughly enjoyed about a third of our entrées apiece before filling up.

Knowing better than to tempt fate, we wisely asked our kindly waitress for some to-go boxes and she quickly brought us some nice plastic containers that were perfect for the different dishes. Since we had to juggle our to-go boxes along with our umbrellas, we asked for a bag as well, and quickly received a large heavy-duty paper bag that was nice and sturdy. It worked very well for not only holding all of our food with only one hand, but also for keeping everything level quite easily.

Although we got some of the most expensive dishes they offered, this time, their menu also includes many other dishes that are still quite delicious, but with lower costs.

Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and quantity of the food for the cost, and the service was spectacular, as the server was very knowledgeable, quick to notice when our drinks were low, checked on us often, but not intrusively so, and had a very kind and pleasant manner. The entire place had a very friendly atmosphere, and would be a great place for bringing family or friends. We had an absolutely wonderful time and would like to thank the hostess, waitresses, cooks, and busboys who made it run so smoothly.

As always great food and great service. Food is fantastic and has a great family atmosphere. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to try this place.

So amazing!!! We had a large party of 9 so we had a long wait. They don't take reservations because they are always full. The pies are delicious, rich, buttery and flavorful. The brussel sprouts, crawfish queso, french toast, triple berry pie, poulet pie (so smokey), and atchafalaya breakfeast were all dishes we would happily order again!! Amazing experience that left us stuffed and happily satisfied!

Since moving to the area, we had heard that this restaurant was a ‘must try.’ Absolutely spot on recommendation! We went on a Friday at lunch time. It was busy but we were seated much quicker than expected. We were told to “come hungry” so we did, and decided to go straight for the main courses. We got the fried chicken + red beans and rice and the Natchitoches meat pie. Absolutely excellent choices. Another review said “best red beans and rice I’ve ever had” and they truly were. So much flavor to them. The fried chicken was just divine; not too much breading but thick enough on the inside to be moist though well-cooked. The meat pie was also superb, not too salty, so flavorful. We got the brussels sprouts and they were easily the best restaurant brussels sprouts we’ve had. Even the side salad with the house pepper vinaigrette was good; very fresh mixed greens. We finished with a coconut cream pie and chocolate cream pie. The coconut was definitely lighter, the chocolate more rich. To agree with another review, yes there was quite a bit of whipped cream on the tops of them. I will post a photo for reference. Great service as well, we will be back.

Upon arrival we had an hour wait which didn't bother me because I was with a group. There isn't a lot of parking behind the restaurant but other parking options are available within close walking distance..I really wanted to try the restaurant after hearing good things about it. Our waitress gave us info on different dishes and drinks. If you don't mind a wait it's a good place for family and friends. Quick video on YouTube @ southernu01

Delicious, classic food with a Mid-City flare! From the street this restaurant is very deceiving, but when you get into the parking area behind the building you can see how popular it is! The atmosphere is very New Orleans restaurant style with it's long bodied dining room, simple and effective bar, and the 50's style pie case hosting freshly baked creations from that day (pecan and blueberry we're the pies of the day).

I ordered the meat pies with fresh grits (added Gouda for a little extra je ne sais quois) and was pleasantly surprised! Two meat pies freshly baked and dressed with green onions along with one of the best sauces I've ever had arrived on a clean white plate; my other half ordered the Boudin Burger (medium rare). All of our dishes were made from scratch with high quality ingredients and care. The only thing I could scrutinize were the seasoned french fries with the burger, they just didn't seem to fit the dish.

I of course had to have pie! I ordered the chocolate pie which consisted of a graham cracker crust, filled with the most delicious made-from-scratch chocolate pudding, freshly whipped cream, and a luscious drizzle of chocolate sauce! I must admit I was doing a little happy dance with each bite of that pie!

For as busy as they were at 3 pm, all of their staff were happy and engaging, the atmosphere was sociable and lively. I did get a sneak peak at their brunch menu but we had come too late. Thos is definitely a place that requires frequent visits, to be able to try all of the amazingly creative meals coming from these talented chefs.

Thank you for an extraordinary dining experience!

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. It’s absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is great. Save room for some homemade pies!!!
